Accommodation: $0

We split our time on the South Island between Queenstown and Riverton. While in Riverton we took the opportunity to do some driving and spend some time in Fiordland National Park. Both house swaps were amazing!

Transportation: $427

Our car rental from the airport was crazy cheap, HOWEVER the gas here is so expensive and our car was ridiculously bad on gas. Worst I have ever seen! So we quickly lost money there.

Flights: $505

Another early flight with Jetstar from Gold Coast and all together it was pretty easy and enjoyable. We did get hit with a $70 over weight charge. Bahhh, you suck JetStar.

Milford Sound boat tour: $156

You can't come to South Island without seeing Milford Sound, it's breathtaking. There are a ton of boat tours, and all together it was super enjoyable, but... I almost thought we could have saved the money and just spent more time hanging out and exploring on our own. We did see pengiuns in their natural habitat though, so that was awesome.

Te Anau cabin: $120

In order to spend as much time exploring Fiordland National Park, we picked up a 2 night cabin in a tiny A frame in Te Anau. This is a super cute little town, but still quite a ways from Milford (although the drive will knock your socks off!). There is a campground/cabin rental right there at the sound, so look into that if you want to get an early start to your day (which i would reccomend!)

Groceries: $764 (not included in budget) We stumbled on the Pak n Save and our lives were changed forever. The prices were still the same as back home in Canada, but they have EVERYTHING!

Dining Out: $0

Absolutely no dining out here, it's expensive! I didnt feel like I was missing out on any "new zealand specialties" so I was happy to just save my money.

Total: $1208

Have you been to the South Island of NZ? What did you get up to?
