We had an amazing time in Scotland! The landscape here is seriously gorgeous and if you are considering going - please do! It's amazing!

Flights: $150 We flew Ryanair from Dublin to Edinburgh and had a great flight. Again, no baggage fees as we packed only carryon so we were able to take advantage of some pretty cheap flights. A quick hour journey and we were in the next country!

Accommodation : $0 We had a beautifully renovated 4 bedroom home in a suburb just an hour from Edinburgh outside of St Andrews. Just behind our home there was a small natural park with a trail that led through town and to the grocery store. My morning runs were so blissful along this trail, I am missing it already!

We did stay in Edinburgh our last night before departing but used points. We stayed at Hotel 20, which is really affordable for being downtown. I think our stay would have only cost us about $100 (which is crazy cheap given it's location) and came with free breakfast.

Transportation : $175 Again, we opted to rent a car from the airport to have some freedom. Once arriving at our home though, I really wished we didn't and just saved the money since everthing was within walking distance. We did, however, book our car hire on points - so I got over that pretty quick. {For the two week rental, it would have cost us $280).

We took train to Edinburgh for the day ($40) and the remaining was used for gasoline. We only had a few days were we took in some distance and we had a tiny little 5 seater, so gas is expensive here. With kids being free on the train, it is almost as cheap as taking the train - and way more enjoyable!

Dining Out: $100 We didn't eat out much and just relied on our grocery budget to carry us through. Lot's of picnics and suppers at home. We did grab a quick lunch at the Ship Inn in Ellie. They have seems super charming outdoor beach bar that you can grab a quick and affordable bite while soaking up the sun overlooking the ocean.

Our last night in Edinburgh we sampled some Haggis, because you just can't leave Scotland without trying it! 🐑

Groceries: $325 Groceries are expensive here! There were certainly ways we could have maybe gotten this down a bit (eating more convenience food like spaghetti etc) but I was desperate for a good meal with fresh produce. We also seemed to develop an addiction for cheese during our stay here, so that didn't help the grocery budget!

Misc: $20 Our day out in Edinburgh only cost us the train ticket (in transportation) as we spent the entire day utilizing all the amazing free entry museums and galleries.

Our last weekend we attended the Highland games at Blair Castle which was so much fun. Highly recommend if you get the chance!

Total: $445

Under budget again!! Next week, Spain 🇪🇦 - I think we are going to blow some of those earned funds 😛
