RTW - week 24 (outbacks and cities)

When we first planned coming to WA we were blown away by the beauty of it. It truly is incredible, but here’s the thing: IT’S SO DAMN BIG.

In my dreams I imagined seeing a good number of these places but the reality is that each one is within (at least!) 20 hours of the other. It was a tad disappointing to make your way here only to realize that you will only be able to just scratch the surface.

Hmmmm, back to being totally unprepared for our trip?! Yep.

Ahhh well, its an excuse to come back for a longer period.

What we did make sure to see, while visiting, is the world famous Pinnacles, which are thousands of weathered limestone pillars – some even reaching up to over 15 feet!

It’s such a great example of what the outback looks like, since we most likely won’t be able to see that anytime too soon.

I had heard that you must see the sunset here, so that is just what we did.

We let the kids play around for a few hours before making our way up to a huge rock to watch the sun dip down below the ocean.

The yellow sand glows and each pillar creates this impressive shadow almost looking like we had landed on Mars.

Just as we were leaving, we spotted the most incredible moon rise coming up opposite where the sun had set. It was absolutely breathtaking!

Everywhere you go in WA is pristine coastline, filled with beaches, parks, playgrounds and each one comes with several community areas with gas grills, bathrooms/showers and gazebos, all for free of course!

They have done an amazing job creating a community and we were able to meet so many families over a BBQ.

It was a great change of pace from feeling rather isolated these past few months.

This weekend we took the train into Perth to check out Kings Park and the downtown harbour. The AFL semi finals were on, so like all the locals in the city, we piled into the park to watch it on the big screen.

Australian Football is a huge deal here, but I have absolutely no idea what is going on. It’s like rugby on steroids!

Kings Park is a massive park located in the centre of the city, and it’s INCREDIBLE. It has stunning views of the water and the city and one of the most impressive war memorials we have seen, plus a huge children’s area in the centre.

We loved it so much we came back the next day with a picnic to listen to the live music on the grass while kicking a soccer ball back and forth. Almost all of Perth spend their weekends here so we were in good company.

W.A, we may not get to see that much of you – but what we do is pretty fantastic!
