2 weeks in Rome ($500)

Flights: $130 This was our last flight with EasyJet, and I am thankful for that! Their limitations on "no personal bag" is quite the nuisance! It is amazing how that extra bit of space goes so far.

Accommodation: $0 We spent the duration of our time in Rome in a 2 bedroom house swap right in the heart of Trastevere. I HIGHLY recommend this area. You are only a quick 15 minute bus ride to the centre of Rome and it's so quiet and lovely here. The people are so friendly, and you actually aren't hassled by pedlars everyday. Thanks to House Swapping, our stay was entirely free!

Transportation: $ 70 I estimated this number and to be on the safe side I figured we spent about $70 but I am sure it was less than this. We had to take a train from Naples, train to Trastevere and then bought 2 bus passes for the week while in Rome. For a week pass it is $24 per adult and kids are free (as they are for most modes of transportation). This was our first time relaying on public transportation, and I am proud to say - we nailed it (although there were several anxiety attacks of course!).

Airbnb: $100 We flew into Naples and stayed right downtown near the train station in an Airbnb with transportation from the airport included. Not gonna lie, it was probably the worst place ever - but it was one night and we left bright and early to catch our train. Man, Naples it loud and HOT!

Groceries: $345 (not included in overall budget) Groceries were comparable with most places in Europe, and again I didn't stress too much on keeping up with the budget.

Excursions: $12 Everything we did was free! You don't need to spend an arm and a leg to really see a country, plus most places open their doors to the public for free just to get you in there and to appreciate what makes Rome so beautiful. We did, however, rent a Surry while visiting Borghese Gardens which was so much fun, and only $12 for all 5 of us.

Dining Out: $143 We had one nice dinner out which cost close to $80 and then several stops in between of just pizza and gelato. We kept costs down by not ordering wine and just going for 2 pizzas to share, a little went a long way!

Total: $442 - we barely made our budget, but we did! Boom!
